Snow - The Pacific Madrone

And along those same lines, I joined a band last month and last weekend we headlined a benefit concert. It was way fun, there was dancing, and the diversity in our music was described as "theatrical." Best compliment ever.

Here's our first music video!
(And thanks to my friend Kayla Soper for filming it.)

Hope - Lamppost Revival

It's true. Sometimes we get carried away and make music videos for our friends.

Thanks to Carlton Eide for scheduling the session, engineering the recordings, and inviting me in. Thanks to Fred Sprinkle for shooting this with me and (of course) thanks to Lammpost Revival for their unbridled awesomeness. Good friends all 'round.

Check out the band on Facebook. Their music is worth your money.
(But they'll give you a little for free anyway.)

Perseid Meteor Shower

Last month I went down to Squalicum beach with a few friends to watch the meteor shower. I failed to photograph a single one, but I was able to make this short video and time lapse.

I recorded the music on location with Pishoy's guitar and a Zoom H4n.

Here's my favorite shots from our get-together at Twin Lakes last night:

Tracking a soundtrack

I laid down two tunes this week for the soundtrack of my upcoming thesis film. My brother, Jeff Russell, helped with the first one and we learned a ton.

Many thanks to Tristan McDaniel for writing the lyrics!

Nothing but the Blood (new recording!)

A while back, the illustrious Dan Snook came to visit and he brought along this arrangement of this hymn from 1876. We invited Derik Bron to join us and we had a lot of fun with it.

I love the music that happens in my living room.

Phil & Jamie's Wedding

Haven't you heard? Things are moving pretty quick up here in the 'ham as my new company, Willowcraft Media, is launching headlong into wedding videography. We kicked things off with a three camera shoot of my friends' wedding. Phil and Jamie are quite the pair and we had a fantastic time laughing through their wedding day with them.
Thanks to Dan Snook and Alan Hussey for their help shooting, editing, and designing typography. Dan's edit is heavily seasoned with magic and Alan sure knows his san-serifs better than your average bear.

Last night's House Show Extravaganza/Lollapalooza/Hootenanny was excellent and the recordings fro that will be released later next month but in the meantime...

Here's another track of Luke, Derik, and myself from the 730 Sessions a few weeks ago:

730 Sessions

Luke Stanage and Derik Bron came over last week to play music and we recorded a couple tunes. This week Derik came back and we snugged this one up enough to share with all y'all.

[You Alone Can Rescue]

We're getting ready to host a concert on April 10 and these two gentlemen will each be playing their own sets!

Procrastination Sessions

I was trying to rehearse the music for church this week and thought it'd be nice to plug my guitar in.

One thing led to another and here's the result:

[Fairest Lord Jesus]

Enjoy!

Merry Christmas!

My christmas present finally arrived this month and today I learned how to make it work. It's more than a little glorious. As my brother aptly described it, it's the cadillac of recording hardware.

Specifically, it's a Digi 003 Rack+ from the little audio company that makes Pro Tools software.

Here's my first test recording:

Inch by inch

The Give Them A Bus team has been making slow progress this winter toward launching our latest fundraiser. We met again tonight to work through more of the details and we're hoping to kick it off in the next couple weeks!

Did I forget to tell you? Amanda and I got to present the GTAB project to loads of high schoolers last month. There were more than seven spanish classes that all got to hear about how easy it is to see an injustice and rally some friends to help change it.
